Authentic Southern BBQ, Tradition Lives On
About Dixie Pig Bar-Be-Que
Homer Hall was born in Salisbury, North Carolina, where he learned the art of Southern-style barbecuing, smoking, and curing meats from his father and grandfather. Their time-honored techniques were passed down through generations, and Homer proudly carried on the tradition.
After moving to Baltimore, Maryland, Homer married and became deeply involved in his church. As a deacon, he helped prepare meals and shared his incredible barbecue with the congregation. His famous barbecue ribs became a staple at church events, loved by everyone who tasted them. Word spread quickly, and soon, people started visiting his home to buy his mouthwatering ribs, minced barbecue, and homemade barbecue sauce.

From Backyard Pit to Business
While working as an independent trucker, Homer brought ribs on the road and sold rib sandwiches straight from his truck. The demand for his barbecue grew so much that he built a brick-and-stone pit in his backyard. This backyard pit, constructed in 1946, became the foundation of Dixie Pig Bar-Be-Que. Homer’s craftsmanship was so solid that the original pit still stands today, complete with his handprint—a true mark of his legacy.
Dixie Pig Bar-Be-Que quickly became a household name, serving up some of the best Southern-style barbecues in the region.
